Here are some that I used to love love love. Dinosaurs, Catdog, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Doug, All That, Rocco's Modern Life, Figure It Out, Hey Arnold, Aaahhh!! Real Monsters, Ren & Stimpy, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Power Ranger, Angry Beavers, Chip N Dale.
I wonder if I just find those cartoons better because I grew up with them, or if cartoons and shows are truly getting worse. I’m sure kids who are going up with Dora and Hanna Montana will be saying the same thing. It’s scary how quickly time flys by.
Here is a list of a bunch of things from the 90s.

You noticed this too? Kids these days just don't know what they're missing out on. I also don't understand why they don't play Bugs Bunny, and Looney Tunes anymore? Ok, they're not the most P.C., but they were smart, funny, and cultural. Now a days you just get...I'm not exactly so sure, but I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteToday's cartoons are nothing like they used to be. It seems like ever since shows like "Pokemon" began to air there has been a shift to Japanese style animation, which I found out is easier to produce and also cheaper for networks to air. Today's cartoons seem completely random and stupid with no substance. I remember watching shows like "Captain Planet" and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" These shows provided a positive message and useful information. Not just mindless stupidity and violence.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. My favorite was Beetlejuice and I used to even get up early before school to watch it in the mornings. I also loved roadrunner and coyote. While I can't say that I don't have some favorites (Aqua Teen, Family guy, Futurama) I feel like these are in a different category than the idea that you are getting at. I think that the cartoons that are being aired now are an attempt at making 'smarter' cartoons- like dora and deigo, that are supposed to teach kids lessons and morals and acedemics. While I suppose it's a good effort I wouldn't mind seeing some of my favorites as the popular shows of today.
ReplyDeleteShows nowadays are horrible. They all like you said just seem to cater to this preteen audience. I don't know what is going. Saturday morning cartoons don't even run anymore. What do kids look forward to nowadays??
ReplyDeleteShows back then had messages. I learned about life by watching Hey Arnold. Now shows just seem like commercials trying to get kids to ask their mom to buy the backpack and the clothes of their favorite disney or nickelodeon character. its a damn shame
Oh my entire family agrees there! But I have found if you watch the Boomerang channel late at night, they all come on. And there are places online where you can order the whole episodes. Personally, I miss the OLD Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Salute Your Shorts.
